The Tiny House project stands as a testament to my lifelong passion for designing small living spaces, seamlessly blending with the shifting holiday and travel norms amidst the pandemic. It encapsulates my dedication to sustainability, harmoniously integrating with nature, and meticulously considering ergonomics and anthropometrics. Among my favorite projects, it reflects a conscious effort to create a sanctuary that not only embraces the essence of compact living but also resonates with the evolving needs of contemporary living. From its inception, this endeavour has been a labor of love, embodying my ethos as an interior designer committed to crafting spaces that are both functional and aesthetically enriching.
When selecting the layout for the Tiny House, we opted for the standard and easily transportable 3x7 meter container type. This decision was driven by the aim to repurpose and reimagine old commercial containers, while also ensuring the design fit within the most readily available and accessible structure. This approach not only facilitated ease of installation but also aligned with our commitment to sustainability by giving a new lease of life to existing materials. During the spatial organization phase, we carefully considered minimum dimensions for the living units while ensuring no compromise on ergonomics. The utilization of multi-functional furniture throughout the space ensures that almost every piece serves more than one purpose. Among these, the most notable are the terrazzo L-shaped countertop, functioning both as a preparation surface and dining table, and the vertical circulation ladder, which doubles as storage aside from its primary purpose of vertical circulation.
The main challenge with the loft bedrooms is their height limitation. To address this, I designed them with reference to ergonomic measurements for both sleeping and sitting. This approach ensured ample and comfortable space for four different seating and sleeping positions, overcoming the constraints posed by the mezzanine-loft height. The colours, textures, and materials utilized in the Tiny House are chosen to harmonize with nature, promoting a healthy, longlasting, and easy-to-clean environment while evoking a sense of home with warm and inviting accents. Despite its designation as a holiday retreat, the fundamental goals were to evoke a sense of home comfort and relaxation.
